Fraser Building, Dunedin Public Hospital


This building had issues with leaking membrane roofs and the SDHB were looking for a watertight solution. Main contractors, Naylor Love contacted us and in conjuction with Sika NZ we came up with a cost effective, attractive simple solution.

Our solution was to loose lay Sika Sarnafil roofing to the flat areas and parapets and lay stones as ballast to the roof. This saved a lot of work, pulling up the existing membrane and avoided any issues with windlift and having to remove old parapet coatings to allow the membrane to be adhered to them. Sika Sarnafil is a 2mm thick PVC membrane with fully heat welded joints and has a host of purpose made accessories to compliment it such as outlets, overflows, mechanical services supports etc.

Stage 1 of the project involved the overlaying of approx 2000 m2 of deteriorating asphalt roofs. While the weather was not suitable for a fully adhered system, we had very little downtime as we loose laid this roof.

When the Clinical Services Building at the Dunedin Hospital need to be waterproofed Adhesion Sealing was asked for a recommended solution and for budget pricing. After funding was obtained, the work was tendered, with Adhesion Sealing being successful. The project involves cutting out and replacing approx. 8,500 lm of sealant joints concrete repair to decorative exposed aggregate panels and applying a water repellant to the complete exterior, all within a tight time frame and in a very public area.

We are currently well into the project, with three faces complete with work on the final face commencing in the new year.
